Califato ¾

"Êcclabô de Libertá"

This Andalusian group has one of the most groundbreaking live performances in the current music scene. They have just released “Çegorâ”, “Xancla Lebanta” and “Êcclabô de liberta”, their latest album which has featured collaborations with the likes of Lole Montoya, Tomás de Perrate, or La Plazuela. The musical personality of Califato ¾ is a melting pot that, starting from flamenco, leads the audience attending their concerts through styles as diverse as breakbeat, acid techno, drum n bass, or hip hop in a sonic ritual that at the same time represents a liturgical experience. The artistic proposal of these Sevillians puts production and electronics at the service of the voice, in the same way that the guitar has historically maintained that selfless servitude towards flamenco singing and dancing. We find influences in Califato ¾, that can range from Aphex Twin to the fusion of tribal percussion and congas combined with electronic glitches, along with singing in a sort of musically polyhedral mestizaje (fusion) that is hard to classify.
