Enrique el Extremeño and Pedro Sierra
Juan Antonio Santiago Salazar, known in the flamenco art world by his stage name Enrique el Extremeño, as he is a native of Zafra, Badajoz. It was his mother who started calling him Enrique as a child, in memory of a brother of his who passed away while she was pregnant with him. Shortly after, he moved with his family to Huelva, specifically to Chorrito Bajo, where he began to be known as “El Extremeño”. As a teenager, he moved to Madrid to start singing in the capital’s tablaos such as Canasteros and Villa Rosa. Given his vocal potential and great sense of rhythm, combined with a special theatricality on stage, his mastery of singing would establish him as an undisputed master in dance accompaniment. This label of a serious singer behind the scenes allowed him to travel the world with the companies of great dancers, such as those of Farruco, Matilde Coral, Enrique el Cojo, Mario Maya, El Güito, Manuela Carrasco, Cristina Hoyos, Eva Yerbabuena, and many others. In fact, he is currently a fixture in the companies of Eva Yerbabuena and Manuela Carrasco. El Extremeño has always sung in the front line, making him one of the most beloved and respected singers in the current flamenco circuit. In Pamplona, he will be accompanied on guitar by Pedro Sierra, a player who perfectly masters the three variants of the flamenco instrument: dance, singing, and concert guitar. In fact, he has four solo albums on the market: “Llanto de la Guitarra” (the cry of the guitar) , “El Toque Flamenco” (The flamenco playing), “Nikelao” (Perfect), and “Decisión” (Decision), the latter being awarded by specialised critics as the best flamenco guitar album of the year.
